NEP has been selected to provide an extensive array of technical and operational management services to NBC Olympics, a division of the NBC Sports Group, for its production of the London 2012 Summer Olympics July 27-Aug. 12. The announcement was made today by Gary Zenkel, president, NBC Olympics, and Debbie Honkus, chairman of the board, NEP.
“We are pleased to be working once again with NEP, and we are confident that NEP’s broad range of operational and technical expertise and solutions will help us ignite even more excitement among viewers watching the Games on the networks of NBCUniversal,” said Zenkel.
For the London Games, NEP is assisting with technical and operational management services for NBC Olympics’ installation at the International Broadcast Centre and sport venues, which includes planning and design, operations coordination, and acting as a liaison between various groups to ensure that the engineering system design will meet the requirements of each production team. In addition, NEP is supplying management staff onsite to assist with execution in various roles including technical venue management, technical operations management, project management, project engineering, communications engineering, venue operations management and facility scheduling.
In addition to management services, NEP is providing extensive equipment resources for NBC Olympics’ coverage of the Games. NEP’s U.K. division, NEP Visions, is supplying the majority of the mobile OB units for unilateral venue coverage including OB trucks, tape trucks, and engineering staff for four major Olympics venues. All feeds from the Opening Ceremony, track & field, gymnastics, basketball finals, beach volleyball, tennis, and the Closing Ceremony will originate from NEP mobile units. These feeds will be edited into broadcast programming at the International Broadcast Centre, and portions will be fed back to NBC Olympics’ facilities in New York where they will originate various cable broadcast shows.
